Think you know Apple? Think again. There’s a lot more to the company that was established in 1976 by Steve Jobs than initially meets the eye. Here are some fun and interesting facts about the Apple’s history that you might want to keep in mind the next time you Apple comes up in conversation with one of your clients.

1. Steve Jobs paid himself an annual salary of $1.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple reported to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that Jobs only received $1 per year. No worries though! He was more than adequately compensated in stock shares and reimbursements. Though he did not receive equity, he received $248,000 in 2010 for the use of his private plane for business purposes and owned 5.5 million shares of the company’s stock (which made him the company’s largest shareholder).

2. Apple execs HATED the famous 1984 commercial and were tempted to scrap it.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, when Steve Jobs and Mike Murray played the spot for Apple’s board of directors, every single one of them hated it and chairman Mike Markula asked if they could fire the ad agency. Luckily, the decision was left up to Jobs and Murray.

3. Apple has had seven CEOs as of 2018.

Although Steve Jobs is the most well-known CEO to have run Apple,there have been seven Apple CEOs as of 2018. Th seven include: Michael Scott, Mike Markkula, John Sculley, Michael Spindler, Gil Amelio, Steve Jobs, and Tim Cook.

4. The Apple Store is more famous than you might imagine.

The Apple Store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan (the cube) is said to be one of the most photographed retail landmarks in the world.

5. Development of the iPad began before the iPhone.

Apple began developing the iPad before the iPhone, but temporarily shelved the effort upon realizing that its ideas would work just as well in a mobile phone.
