HP Laptop Screen Repair

Sometimes we prefer to do things ourselves. In this Computer Troubleshooter’s do-it-yourself guide, you will learn how to do an HP Laptop screen repair. Simply follow the steps below to replace your cracked, old, or damaged screen.

DIY HP Laptop Screen Repair

  1. Ensure the laptop is not plugged in and to remove the battery.
  2. Remove all visible rubber screw covers on the screen assembly.
  3. Remove all the screws attaching a puzzle to the top cover.
  4. It’s important to remember the positions of the screws as they need to be reinstalled in the same positions later.
  5. closed hp laptopNow that we removed all the screws the bezel can be removed. Carefully pry the plastic away from the screen, starting from the side moving top around to bottom try not to apply too much force that is possible to break off plastic tabs underneath or to fracture the bezel.
  6. Depending on the laptop, you may need to remove a few other screws to gain access to the screen.
  7. Remove the panel screws and be careful of the last screw and catch the screen from falling on its own.
  8. Gently put the screen onto the keyboard making sure no cables are over stressed.
  9. Disconnect the power cord from the inverter board then carefully lift the clear tape securing the video connector to the screen.
  10. Disconnect the video cable leaving the clear and any other tape on it. Carefully discard the old panel. If the replacement screen does not have any protective film, cover the keyboard with a cloth or paper towel.
  11. Then put the new screen on the keyboard and reattach the power cable to the inverter.
  12. Reconnect the video cable and secure the tape. It is critical to not force any of the connections. If aligned properly, it should fit relatively easy.
  13. Lift the screen back up to line it up with a frame and secure the four tiny screws starting from the top.
  14. Remove any protective film from the screen and refasten all other screws on the screen.
  15. You can now test out the new screen by connecting the AC adapter and hit power once the screen lights up and the startup graphics should appear.
  16. Hold the power button again to cancel the bootup and disconnect the AC adapter.
  17. Replace the bezel start from the bottom and move consistently to the top by gently snapping the plastic throughout the perimeter of the screen assembly.
  18. Replaces the screws observing the proper positions and reinstall the screw covers.
