MacBook Battery Replacement Guide

All rechargeable batteries have a restricted lifespan and will eventually need to be repaired, replaced or recycled. The lifetime of your battery will vary depending on how you use your device as well as the settings you choose for it. 8 Steps to MacBook Battery Replacement

Often times, users can replace a battery on their own without the help of a technician. Follow these steps to get rid of your faulty battery!

Step 1: Lower Case

• Set the laptop upside down and take out the eight 4 mm Phillips screws binding the lower case to the MacBook.

Step 2:

• The lower case is made of rubber-coated aluminum. Do not bend the aluminum during removal too much, as any deformation will cause issues when you put it back together.
• Lightly lift the lower case near the vent opening.
• Keep running your fingers between the lower and upper cases until the upper case pops off its retaining clips.

Step 3: Battery

• • Utilize the flat end of a spudger tool to raise the battery connector up out of its socket on the logic board.
  • It’s easiest to use your fingernails to lift up on both sides of the connector.

Step 4:

• Take out the two 5 mm Tri-Wing screws binding the battery to the upper case.

Step 5:

• Peel off the warning label with the point of a spudger tool to reveal a hidden Tri-Wing screw.
• Take out the 5 mm Tri-Wing screw binding the battery to the upper case.

Step 6:

• Take out the three 3.1 mm Phillips screws securing the battery near the edge of the upper case.
• When putting the battery back in, be sure to install these three screws before continuing to fasten the Tri-Wing screws.

Step 7:

• Separate the battery from the upper case by pulling the pull tab.

Step 8:

• Grab the replacement battery and follow the instructions in reverse order.

Keep in mind that putting any battery straight in the trash is hazardous. By properly recycling your old battery instead of tossing it in the garbage, you are doing your part for the environment.
